Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP)
What is Ketamine?
Ketamine is a legal, safe and effective medicine used to treat a variety of mental health conditions including depression, anxiety and PTSD. Ketamine has rapidly-acting antidepressant and mood-enhancing effects, which can begin to take effect within 1-2 hours after treatment and last for up to 2 weeks. It works by blocking the brain’s NMDA receptors as well as by stimulating AMPA receptors, which are thought to help form new synaptic connections and boost neural circuits that regulate stress and mood. Ketamine has also been shown to enhance overall neuroplasticity for lasting symptom improvement.
How is this different?
KAP is considered to be a form of psychedelic assisted psychotherapy. The past two decades of research have shown that when ketamine is self-administered in the proper setting and in the presence of a trained psychotherapist clients report experiencing a significant alleviation of symptoms and a drastic change in their state of mind.
Compared to a one hour long talk therapy session, KAP is a three hour long session using a psychedelic integration process to help our clients gain insight into the innermost workings of their mind while also trying to derive meaning from their experience. Finally we work on translating their meaningful experience back into their every day lives.
KAP is a new and more innovative approach to help meet our client’s demands as opposed to the old and or traditional approaches to treating mental health. With KAP you experience the rapid antidepressant effect within a few short hours after the treatment versus the standard four to six weeks with other sorts of antidepressants.
Why do it through us?
When you receive KAP through Inner Peace Therapy and Wellness, you are provided with the top care at the most affordable price by trained and highly competent practitioners in psychedelic assisted psychotherapy. We are one of the first practices in New Jersey offering KAP at this time. Other programs in New Jersey, as well as the tri-state area can charge an extreme amount to provide their clients with Ketamine infusions and to leave them alone in a room, then send them home when they are done. Unfortunately, this approach may miss out on 50% of the therapeutic value one can get from this treatment.
We provide several psychotherapeutic sessions in preparation for the dosing session and one additional session post dosing that are all covered by your insurance, whereas many other programs charge you a fortune out of pocket for each Ketamine Infusion. Through our partnership with Journey Clinical, you are provided with sublingual lozenges that can be self-administered in the comfort of your home or therapist office at a fraction of the price.
